Restech pH Monitoring System

Restech pH Monitoring System

If you are one of the many people with distressing throat symptoms such as chronic cough, throat clearing, a constant feeling of phlegm in your throat, and feeling your throat close up on you, you may have been to multiple doctors to find out what is wrong and what to do about it. Frequently, the diagnosis is not certain. You may have been told you have a postnasal drip, a sinus infection, or an allergy. If you do not respond to conventional medical treatment, a referral to a specialist such as an ear, nose and throat doctor is often made. In many cases, you may be told you most likely have acid reflux, which is a condition where acidic liquid from your stomach backs up into your throat and causes your symptoms.

But what if you do not experience the tell-tale signs of acid reflux, such as heartburn, indigestion, and regurgitation? You might not believe that your diagnosis is correct, and you may be unwilling to undergo a several-month treatment with diet restrictions and medications to see if you feel better.

Now there is a test that can prove if you have acid backing up into your throat. It is called the Restech pH Monitoring System. A thin tube is inserted inside your nose with minimal discomfort, and the tip of the tube will stay high in your throat, where it will not bother you. You will be monitored for 24 hours, and then you will bring the system back to the office. Once the report is complete, you will follow up in the office for the results, which will indicate if you have too much acid affecting your throat. That way, you will know in advance if you really have acid reflux and if it is worth your time and effort to treat it.
